Tutoring Experience
I have worked as a private tutor for four years, focusing primarily on university admissions for Law. In that time, I have worked for four tutoring companies and independently.
In addition, I run LNAT workshops at the LSE, guiding classes of students through both sections of the LNAT test. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I ran these workshops via Zoom.
Finally, I am an education consultant on Oxbridge admissions. In that role, I have contributed to an e-book on how to succeed in the Oxbridge Law interview.
Tutoring Approach
I prepared extensively for my own LNAT, and achieved 39/42. Although the LNAT is an aptitude test, I believe that it can be taught to a large extent. The phrasing of the questions in Section A tends to be repetitive, so I ensure that my students are able to tackle each type of LNAT question successfully. I have ample LNAT materials and past papers which I share with my students.
My lessons on Section B are usually themed, exploring theoretical frameworks such as liberalism, paternalism, utilitarianism etc, before seeing how these frameworks can be applied and discussed in the context of LNAT essay questions. I place a strong emphasis on ensuring that my students are able to comment on current news stories. I give clear and personalised feedback on students’ Section B essays.
Some of my tips for succeeding in the LNAT are available via the Jesus College
Oxford website. I run through these tips and more with my students.
Oxbridge interviews can vary significantly depending on the college which one is called to. As such, I have asked friends and contacts at Oxbridge about the details of their different interview experiences. Based on their responses, I put together a collection of realistic mock Law interviews which I run through with my students.
