Tutoring Experience

I have over 4 years’ experience tutoring students, especially from China (or of Chinese origin) but also from the UK.

Notable experiences include below.

- Assistance with drafting and editing of hundreds of personal statements, for:

Masters’ applications in Economics, Financing, Accounting and many other variations to top UK universities including Cambridge, Oxford, UCL, LSE, KCL, Edinburgh, LBS, Cass etc

Masters’ applications in Finance subjects for top US universities including MIT, Yale, JHU

Undergraduate applications in Economics and related to top UK universities


-Created two of my own unique 40-hour courses which I taught to students with great feedback:

Economics Masterclass: A 4 module course covering the main concepts in Cambridge first year undergrad economics, perfect for Year 12/13 or equivalent students who want to find out if Cambridge/Economics is right for them, get a head start at university-level learning, prepare for interviews and the ECAA, and increase their overall knowledge of Economics.

ECAA Prep: Specially designed course with hundreds of tutor-designed questions designed to prepare students for all aspects of the ECAA.


Additionally,

-Provided specialised assistance on other university admissions tests, such as the TSA.
-Administered practice interviews and interview training for Cambridge and Oxford undergraduate admissions.
-Delivered a finance learning programme and coached teams for the Wharton GHS Investment Competition. Successfully guided several teams to the semi-final and one team to the global final.
-Tutored students for numerous essay competitions, including the Marshall Society, RES and John Locke.
-Provided tuition in A-Level Economics, Maths and Further Maths, as well as GCSE Maths. Every student I worked with noticed a material increase in test performance following my tuition.

Tutoring Approach

My approach varies by topic and student. However, common across all my lessons are the
following factors:

Interactivity and adaptability: whilst I have structured lesson plans, a unique aspect of my approach is my willingness to allow the student to guide the lesson. I mostly use an interactive whiteboard (instead of, for example, PowerPoint slides), in order to take advantage of the small class environment. This can mean focusing in further on areas my students find difficult, or going on slight tangents which can significantly enhance their understanding and add value.

Out of class assignments: to ensure students get the most out of the course, I give them tailored assignments to enable them to explore the subject in their own time. These are structured with essential and optional questions, allowing the student to put in the amount of time that best suits their needs.
